The idea of building a world-class golf course in Russia has arisen when the famous American businessman Dr. Armand Hammer was invited to Russia. The purpose of his visit was to find out what Russia needed to attract Western business to Russia. It turned out that Russia needed limousines … and a golf course. Under the direction of Ivan Ivanovich Sergeev, the Head of GlavUpDK at MFA of RF, the idea became a reality and construction of the first and the only 18-hole golf course in Russia began. The first Russian Open Golf tournament was held on the first 9 holes in the Golf Club in 1993 and since then it has become the permanent place of holding this tournament. A year later a day has come which everybody was looking forward - the grand opening of the world-class golf course took place on September 2, 1994. 18 perfect holes, harmonizing with the lyrical landscape of the Moscow Region, charmed with its beauty. Since then not one tournament has been held on the golf course of the Moscow Country Club and not one star of the Russian golf has come out. Professionals and amateurs from all over the world are coming here. The best golfers of the PGA European Tour are competing here. And it is no mere chance: the only 18-hole golf course in Russia is reckoned among hundred best professional golf courses of the world.
